Inspired by Ancient's fairy tale songs. I thought I might try my hand at writing a story while I was at it. :) Enjoy.

She left the castle and went into the courtyard. They were here, they were always here after dark. The guards didn't see her thankfully. She approached one of the ethereal figures beneath a great and ancient willow tree, they were all beautiful and shining, a picture of what a person was instead of what they looked like. This one had long green hair that danced in the slight summer night breeze. Her flawless soft face seemed to be lit from within illuminating her, letting her bright green eyes stand out against the pallor of her flesh. The Faery seemed surprised to see the human girl but it was hard to see it in her almost still features.

“You approach me castle-dweller, with ill will or a warm welcome?” Her voice as soft and beautiful as bells, and touch by an accent.

“Aye, Fae maiden. I approach, I do so with an open heart, a wish to be granted, and a debt from my house to pay.” The girl spoke from beneath her dark cloak.

“Ah, I see. Remove your cloak and allow me to see your eyes, that I know you are truthful.”

The girl removed her hood. She knew that she would look lack luster and pale to the Faery, but hoped that the determination in her face would put the woman at ease. Her dark hair was pulled back and up into a bun to reveal her whole face, oval and in terms of human standards she had been told was quite beautiful. She felt like a wretch looking into the bright eyes of the Faery with her own dull brown reflecting the light.

“You seem enough for the standards of my people. You are sure that the gift I have to offer is one you wish to take? It cannot be returned and you will never be permitted to return to your world.” The Faery woman spoke her cautions softly.

“Aye. I am sure. I have left instructions for my kin, this is what I want.” The girl unclasped her cloak to reveal a plain black dress. She had heard that this was the norm that when humans were given the gift of the Fae they turned into a darker version of the light creatures, that black was the customary colour to wear.

“I see you are prepared to mourn your human death. Very well.” The Faery stepped closer. “My name is Meathra, I shall be your Fae-Mother. What is your human name child?”

“It is Corina.” She bowed her head respectfully.

“Accept my embrace and my gift Corina.” The air shook with the power of Meathra’s words and Corina felt her body pull towards the beautiful woman’s arms, her steps were sure and she wrapped her own arms around the Faery much to Meathra’s surprise.

Light enveloped the pair and they vanished from the courtyard.
