This song is telling the story of a soldier that get captured in battle along with many other soldiers. He is brutally beaten every day, but he still has hope he helps his comrades escape but one of the wounded is falling behind, so he goes and helps him reach but he notices that they are a man short so he goes and looks for him, but in doing so he gets caught again but this time he doesn't leave the prison with his life. He gets shot and killed by the man who he went back to find. The man had betrayed them, but because of the soldier's bravery and strength they did not find the others.
