This is a song I wrote when my girlfriend, Caty, broke up with me.

We had been together for one and a half years. She was my first real girlfriend. I knew her online; I lived in Illinois and she lived in Ohio. This song illustrates our relationship together... the ups and the downs... heartbreak and tenderness... and how it all ended.

It starts out innocent, carefree, and with little depth. Then it gradually grows into something more special... and then it turns into a dramatic, angry flurry of inevitability. Hints of what we once had intrude... and then it transforms into tender, romantic bliss. It grows exciting and more complicated, persists for a long time... and then tumbles into chaotic, rebellious anger. The chaos escalates, and then suddenly everything stops... it's over. Echoes of the past haunt the melody, but this time it's just a grim reminder of what isn't there... and then a lonely, remorseful piano persists beyond the void only to be consumed by it.
