Cosmopolitan City I: We're now heading down under for a spell, which is merely a more colorful way of saying "I'm going to Sydney, Australia." For where could someone--someone who doesn’t happen to be a kangaroo, that is--plausibly go in Australia other than Sydney, that global city of the rickety opera house and Nemo? Belated spoiler alert.

Years ago--decades, in fact--while Molly Hatchet was "Beatin' the Odds" with their gigantic guitar sound in America, Rick Springthorpe was beating all Oz with his gigantic guitar skills in 4.6 million-rocker-strong Sydney. Skills, it must be noted, Rick was always quite loath to share with the listening public. Years later, when the rechristened Rick SpringFIELD could be found doing any number of things (of wildly varying degrees of entertainment value), the oddly christened Molly Hatchet was still "Beatin' the Odds." So what are the odds against a band with the giant sound of Molly Hatchet being relegated to touring campsites in the American South, using the only Marshall stack they were able to get out of hock? It actually matters very little what those odds were, 'cause they beat 'em, baby! Just as predicted. Or was that "Flirtin' with Disaster"? Also no real matter, because this tune is a tribute to neither Rick nor Molly. Though possibly to no-less-relevant AC/DC.
